The cold and open water of the Mississippi river creates a great place for American Bald Eagles to spend their winters, which makes Alton a winter home to the bald eagles. During this time there are more than 100 species of birds that can be seen, and early morning is the best time to see the American Bald Eagles because that’s when they’re most active.
