Hotel Add-On Fees
Excerpts from Innkeeping Magazine
Additional fees are becoming common in the hotel industry.
A recent article in Corporate and Incentive Travel discusses some of these new revenue sources. Guests can now expect to pay extra for . . . delivering a package, receiving an overnight package, or even for using a hotel iron!
More Hotel Add-On Fees
Others are being charged for housekeeping, turndown service, and an in-room safe. They're even being charged for items that used to be included in the room rate, such as the newspaper and in-room coffee.
The cost of phone calls has been significantly affected. The reason? Hotels are charging $1 per minute for being connected to the Internet.
Resort Amenity Fees
But for hotels and resorts, the extra fees don't stop there. Some are charging a “resort amenity fee,” which can range from $4.00 to $20.00 a day [or more] on top of the room rate.
These fees are for amenities such as use of the pool, the fitness center, newspaper delivery, and bottled water, whether the guest uses them or not.
