Underground Railroad Shuttle Tour (10 AM) @ Alton Visitors Center

Step back in time as J. E. Robinson Tours and the Alton Regional CVB guide you to local sites filled with a rich history.

The two-hour guided shuttle will stop at some of the sites that were once a part of the Underground Railroad, including Alton Museum of History and Art, Rocky Fork area, and more. Learn how Alton’s location along the Mighty Mississippi played a vital role in helping slaves reach freedom.

Remnants of history remain, buried beneath the streets of Alton. Come discover history for yourself.

This nationally renowned fine arts and crafts fair features 150 artists from across the country, displaying original works of various media, including ceramics, fiber/textiles, glass, jewelry, paining, sculpture, photography, and more. The fair will also include food and drink vendors, music, and other entertainment throughout the weekend.

Lewis & Clark: Point of Departure @ Lewis & Clark State Historic Site

Commemorate the departure of the Lewis & Clark expedition from Camp River Dubois with a real-life reenactment of the historic event! Witness a glimpse of life in 1803-1804 as re-enactors portray the departure and military life.

Also on the grounds are demonstrations of early American skills, such as wood working, candle making, cooking, shooting, as well as demonstrations and reenactments of marching drills.

Vintage Baseball Game @ Lewis & Clark State Historic Site

Enjoy baseball as it was played way back in the day with a vintage baseball game at Lewis & Clark State Historic Site! Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy gentlemanly sportsmanship of the 19th century, featuring Alton Baseball Club.

Hakuna Matata River Rambler Cruise @ Grafton Harbor
May 7 @ 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Cruise the Mighty Mississippi, learn its history, and take in the beautiful scenery on the Hakuna Matata River Rambler Cruise, departing Grafton Harbor promptly at 4 pm.

The Hakuna Matata is a 49-passenger all-weather tour boat. The first level is fully enclosed with large windows and is seasonally heated and cooled. The upper deck is a huge open air patio offering a stunning 360-degree view of the river and surrounding areas. Restrooms, a cash bar, light snacks, and souvenirs are also available.

Open House at Haskell Playhouse @ Haskell Playhouse

Tour one of Alton’s historic gems, Haskell Playhouse (which is just within walking distance from The Beall), select dates throughout the summer, beginning in April. Take in views of the exquisite Queen Anne style architecture and learn the history of the family and the playhouse, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
