Mapping St. Louis History
Mar 6 @ 7:30 am – 5:00 pm

Take a walk through St. Louis history and view historic maps, rare books, and images commemorating the city’s 250th birthday.

Mercantile Library is located on the 2 lower levels of Thomas Jefferson Library (you will walk in on the 3rd floor). Exhibitions can be viewed during normal Thomas Jefferson Library hours. Enjoy the exhibition by yourself or take a free, docent-led tour Saturdays at 11 or Sundays at 2. Group tours can also be arranged. Bring your own lunch to the refuge Visitor Center and sit down with the staff of Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge to learn about the great bald eagle.

After lunch, about 12:45, head out for a short ranger-led hike to behold the spectacular sight of eagles soaring over Swan Lake.

Underground Railroad Shuttle Tour (10 am)

Step back in time as J. E. Robinson Tours and the Alton Regional CVB guide you to local sites filled with a rich history.

The two-hour guided shuttle will stop at some of the sites that were once a part of the Underground Railroad, including Alton Museum of History and Art, Rocky Fork area, and more. Learn how Alton’s location along the Mighty Mississippi played a vital role in helping slaves reach freedom.

Remnants of history remain, buried beneath the streets of Alton. Come discover history for yourself.

Tour admission is $25/person. Please call the Alton CVB at (800) 258-6645 for more information or for advanced registration.
