Audubon Center: “Birds of Winter”

Join the Audubon Center this winter to see and learn about the Riverbend’s treasure, the magnificent bald eagle, among other migratory birds that make this area their home during the winter months. Enjoy the view while staying warm inside the center, or venture out to the water’s edge for a closer look at Riverbend nature.

Audubon Eagle Watch

Join the Audubon Center for a day of eagle watching. It’s a guarantee that you’ll see one eagle, up close and personal, as you learn about eagle watching – how to spot them, where to look, and what brings them here each winter. Then, venture out and try to spot some on your own! High powered spotting scopes will be available for use, and knowledgeable staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions.

Live Bald Eagles at Treehouse Wildlife Center

See a live bald eagle up close and personal each weekend in January and February at Treehouse Wildlife Center. Visitors will have the chance to ask questions and learn about the species and their habitats.

Watershed Cairns Exhibit

This new photography exhibit artfully highlights the St. Louis area’s close connection to rivers and streams. The images of the Watershed Cairns exhibit document important places in our regional watershed through vivid, large-scale photos of sculptural cairns made of glass. By naming and mapping sites of the photos, the exhibit offers visitors the chance to learn of the interconnection of these waters and the areas through which they pass.

Alton-Grafton Restaurant Week

From January 16th – 25th, enjoy a tasty meal out at various locally-owned restaurants along the Byway as part of the 4th annual Alton-Grafton Restaurant Week. Each restaurant will be offering some of their best menu items at special rates; lunch is priced at $10, and dinner is priced at $25 (not including tax and gratuity).

Bald Eagle Festival
Jan 25 @ 11:00 am – 3:00 pm

Join Pere Marquette Lodge and Conference Center to celebrate and learn more about our nation’s most majestic symbol, the bald eagle. Be introduced to the area’s most beloved bird of winter, shop unique wares from various vendors, grab a bite to eat in the restaurant, and enjoy live music and other entertainment.

The World Bird Sanctuary will be showcasing the bald eagle along with other raptor species in their Masters of the Sky presentation at noon and again at 1:30. Arrive early to see a live bald eagle up close and personal.

Alton’s own Olive Oil Marketplace will be there as well – with free samples!

Mapping St. Louis History

Take a walk through St. Louis history and view historic maps, rare books, and images commemorating the city’s 250th birthday.

Mercantile Library is located on the 2 lower levels of Thomas Jefferson Library (you will walk in on the 3rd floor). Exhibitions can be viewed during normal Thomas Jefferson Library hours. Enjoy the exhibition by yourself or take a free, docent-led tour Saturdays at 11 or Sundays at 2. Group tours can also be arranged. Alton Little Theater presents: Alone Together (Comedy)

Alone Together is a hilarious Broadway comedy centering on the life of two parents who have spent the last 30 years raising 3 active sons. For years the couple has looked forward the the peace, quiet, and privacy of an empty nest, and the nest is finally emptied! But it’s not peaceful and quiet for long… All 3 sons come running home after experiencing some real-world hardships, and Mom and Dad have quite a time pushing them out again. Cleverly comic, witty, and wise, Alone Together has delighted US audience as well as those of Europe.
